I recently replaced the muffler on my exhuast system. The new muffler has the following problems. It sounds like marbles are rattling around in it when you first start the engine for the day. This lasts for about 2 minutes. Also, it drones at speeds of 60 mph and above. I am wondering if the muffler is simply to small, or is this typical of all cheap mufflers. The muffler is cylindrical with a 20 inch case length and a 6.5" diameter. It has a 2.5 inch inlet and outlet.

I am thinking of replacing it with a cylindrical Dynomax super turbo (#17788) with a case 25" case and a 7" inch OD. Anyone have any idea of how loud this would be, and would it drone at freeway speeds. I want a fairly quiet muffler.

Thanks,
Dave

My Jeep's exhuast is to small and anything above 3000rpm with at least 1/4 throttle down (normally about 60mph when i need that much thtrottle) it sounds terrible. It really drones, and just soundds od. I have a single 2 1/4 inches outlet. I am gona put duel exhuast on this weekend most likely. Prolly a Thrush, they are good, and are cheap. never had a complaint with them before.

you prolly have a loose baffle in the muffler. I run twin 2.25 pipes into oval Dynomax super turbos that are about a foot long and 2.25 tailpipes that exit behind the rt rear tire. They produce a deep mellow sound that almost covers the sound of my mud tires spankin the pavement. The diff between the duals and the stock style setup was like putting in a whole new motor.
