Do you have a stock 4BBL or a 2 BBL manifold? If a 4BBL manifold is what you have then an adapter plate could be used. If its a 2BBL there is an adapter to use however it is a pointless conversion. ;)

Two ways, find a Stock 4BBL and stock 4350 carb or adapt a carb of your choice. My preference would be, Edelbrock Performer (EGR) #3731 and Edelbrock #1400 EGR. I run a Edelbrock Performer non EGR #2131 and 1406 Edelbrock Carb. Best setup I ever had. Lots of throttle response and great power. It would depend on how much $$$$ you can spend. This setup would run you close to $500.00 new, with gaskets and bracket kits for throttle and auto trany linkage hookup. ;)

So what your sayin is that the 1406 is an non egr carb? But i think i need one because it's an 83 and i live in new jersey.

Yes the 1406 is a non EGR carb. However the 1400 is a 1406 with provisions for Smog/EGR setup. The #3731 Performer is an EGR manifold. I am not familiar with your Smog laws so I would call Summit Racing and ask them what works for you. I see no reason why this would not work. ;)

You might try ebay for your parts. I just scored a brand new 1406 edelbrock carb for a quite a bit less than what Summit sells it for. I haven't had much luck finding a manifold though, so I will probably have to buy it from Summit.
Good luck!

I bought mine from Checker Auto (AutoZone) for $219 and change. I like to buy them new localy or summit. Someone that has a good return policy on defective parts. I have seen what that 1406 cost, and the Shipping. I would recomend you shop around a little on the manifold. Don't get me wrong I like to shop ebay as well, however it is easy pay too much for a non-returnable item. Be careful. ;)

do ya know the part numbers for the throttle linkage, trans hook up and carb spacer.thanks alot. :D
The Chevy EGR setup redirects the exhaust gasses into the carb directly. The AMC setup uses an external valve run off carb vacuum. The Edelbrock 1400 is designed to run with the Chevy setup. The 1406 has enough vacuum ports to handle running the EGR valve on your AMC engine.
If you get an Edelbrock Performer AMC (EGR) intake manifold (#3731), you can bolt the 1406 carb to it and run the vacuum line to the EGR valve and it will work fine. I don't know about New Jersey smog laws but here in Texas, they don't care what carb you use so long as the smog equipment is there and hooked up and you pass the tailpipe emissions test. At least that's what the local inspector told me.

Roy, that's because most of them wouldn't know a 4bbl if it bit em. The last inspection I had in Dallas, the operator tried to tell me my Cherokee was computer controlled, (79 wasn't in his data base), so I told him look all he wants for a computer, it never was there!!

I hear ya on that but the one guy I talked to is a gear head who is only a year or two out of highschool. We talked axles, trannys and engines while they were working on my Jeep and he at least has a clue.
