Hi,
I'm about ready to get my 1979 Chief WT for a dutch registration :drivin:
I know that on the baby jeeps the vin is on the dashboard and stamped on the frame.
for the registration I have to show that the body and frame are matching VIN.
Does anybody know if and where on the frame I can find the VIN??
stupid Dutch registration :banghead:

To the best of my knowledge, in the 70s the VIN was on the frame rail below the driver's seat.
There is sometimes one located near the driver's side motor mount.

I would have guessed, if it's like the CJs, that it's stamped into the top of the frame near the right front shock mount. Might be near the back right mount.
Regardless, it should be only the sequential serial number part of the VIN. They can be hard to read, filled-in with paint.

there are stampings on the front passenger frame rail in front of the axle on top of the frame, and on the driver side rear frame on the outside just behind the rear axle.
A common place is on the frame hoop over drivers side rear wheel. If the cops there require matching numbers, they'll know where to look. Here in the states theres a book used by the inspectors(State Patrol here in WA) that shows the VIN locations for practically anything that requires a title. Cover is printed in bold caps "FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY" Must be a pretty special book. Last VIN inspection I went through the guy showd me the book and breifly he thumbed through the pages but wouldn't let me touch it or look through it myself.

Geez,
here you walk in with the title signed by the previous owner, walk out with plates and a registration, slap registration sticker on window and J33p is on teh road!
If someone did check, it would be nice to have the VIN plate on the firewall at least. Any Jeep I build it made up of parts from a dozen or so Jeep's, good luck finding any matching VIN numbers. :D

please convince my wife to emigrate
I lived for a year in Sacramento CA and still have family in Idaho, Oregon and Florida.
the Jeep now has a german title but the dutch DMV are little pricks. like the type of people that rejected as parking control
Parts here are terrible as well. the newer jeep stuff (YJ, XJ, ZJ & WJ) are easy to come by. been thinking of ripping the drive train for a more modern one......
hmm. probably should make a net topic to keep everything organized
Thanks.

Are you affraid it's a been put together from various rigs and the numbers won't match? If you're pretty such the vehicle is ok just take it there and let them do the cleaning and searching. They''ll know where to look. Is there a penalty/fine if it doesn't pass? If not then just them do the work. Wether you find bad numbers or they do what's the difference?

I have searched everywhere,I just can't find a VIN. I think they were ripped of for a project truck, But somewhere there must be a vin for the original. I really need to find one to the truck. Not to mention the issues at motor vehicle. Where can I look that may not be molested. Very important because we are all guessing its a 64.
Thanks Jplug
