mileage with lockout hubs

Ihave an 85 Grand Wagoneer that is equipped with a np229 select trac and does not have a vacuum
front axle . Cani put lochout hubs on to increase mileage as i am only getting around 8 mpg.
Any other suggestions for increasing mileage
would be greatly appreciated .

the gains with manual hubs are almost nil. and if you leave them unlocked and select 4wd high you will be buying a new viscous coupler in the xfer case, pronto. so sayeth the all-knowing ifsja gang.

you should be getting around 12 mpg. try a tuneup, and do a search for the tfi upgrade.
