Ok, hello all, back home in Pensacola, Fl for now. So since I need to do a rebuild of my 258, I have been toying the a few ideas. Rebuild the 258, build a stroker 4.0, add a 4.0 head to my 258 and rebuild, toss in a 360(fuel prices killed that one) Or, now that I am home, I forgot I have an early (83) Ford 302 compleate engine. I was planing on putting this in my 65 mustang, but the 200 6cyl I have in that just keeps going and won't die.
Now my question to all of you is, would it be worth my while to put a ford 302 in my Cherokee and if anyone out there has done this, what will I need to do to make this work with retaining as much of the factory drive line as I can? is the 302 any good for a daily driver with a 4x4 run every once in a while?
thoughts, answers and questions welcome
thanks

Go with the 258 or its kin (4.0 4.0 stroker ..) It will be a lot cleaner install.

Zorm, the easiest way to do it would be to use a ford tranny and transfer case, and see where you end up with drive shafts. Some one on here has swapped in a 351 and said it was very easy, but he has a 2wd tranny and has not finished the transfer case mounting yet, I tried search but could not find it. I like the 302, have one in a pick up, it is very reliable, lots of available parts, easy to work on, and you can build one just about any way you want. You might find the extra cost/hassle of working up a tranny/transfer case might make it easier to just stay with the amc 6, which is a good engine too.
