Has anyone done this to a FSJ? It is a quite popular thing to do to CJ's.
I don't know if it really would make a difference on these heavy things.
Thanks,
Dave

A few have talked about doing it but I believe a general concencous on the subject is there is no real addvantage gained. Try a search on the subject should find the answers your looking for.

Mo Gas It has been quite some time since I actully did one of these, but in the days before indepentent front suspensions on off road racers everyone running a frt leaf spring system did this. The reason is that it allows the axle to move in the right(rearward) direction when the spring is compressed. It also allows for small wheelbase adjustments, a larger range of eaisly available spring rates, and ride heights can be "built in". The downside is; driveshaft lenghts are very critical, caster can become excessive along with pinion shaft angles. Good Luck

friends that run rear mounted front shackles have to limit droop with chains to keep the DS from seperating, and as mentioned, its critical to make it short enuff it doesnt collapse all the way and push the transfer case off the tranny during compression  taht happened to a friend of mine and it was bad news. had to drive it home with ratchet straps holding the xfer to the tranny and all the innards were destroyed beyond reuse.
another line of thinking amongst the pro rock crawlers is that moving the axle forward(with front mounted front shackles) into the object gives better traction, tho at te expense of a somewhat harsher ride.
i like my front shackles cause my drivesahft slip yoke doesnt move much smile.gif plus the axle moves forward, away from the firewall during travel. i have clearcance issues with the firewall and 38" tires during full stuff while turning with my minimal lift,so the front shackles work much better for me.
