View Full Version : Fuse confusion-Clk-Haz-Stop

In my neverending search for a short, I found that the 20A Clk-Haz-Stop fuse is pulling juice with the rig off. Pulled the fuse, but the clock still works when I turn on the lights. Huh???! Jumped the fuse with the test light, and the chime made a pitiful kind of sound, and the test light lit (barely). Stuck one end of a test light in the fuse clip and put the other on the metal part of the brake pedal. Lit up big time.

Can someone help sort out what this means?

Thanks,

doncha love workin on that fusebox? since i got my bifocals i just have my sons work on it. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif if indeed that fuse runs the hazards, it doesnt run off the ig sw. that explains the 12 volts between the fuse and ground. whilst typing this, something occured to me. check the flashers, the 2 aluminum cans plugged in on the fuse box (or near it). is one or either of them warm? that may be your short. heck, if its warm, and ya havent used them, thats prolly it. those things are cheap and rinky dink. remove it and see if the battery stays alive. good luck

andy d,
Makes sense..before my post I tried to pull the hazard "can" out, but it won't budge. Rotates freely, though (weird). Will try hurling foul language at it, see if that helps.

So what in the heck runs the clock? There's another space for "Clock", but no fuse or wire like the AC has.

On the bright side..At least I'm learning a little about vehicle wiring. Need a better wiring diagram; Haynes' stuff covers "most" years on a lot of the diagrams.

Normal - small amount of current to run the clock.

Pulled the fuse, but the clock still works when I turn on the lights. Huh???!

I believe the clock should LIGHT as the clock (time) and display (light) are on separate circuits. With the clock fuse pulled turn on the lights - the clock should light but the time should not change.

The chime is on the clock/flasher/brake light fuse - did you have the key in when you had the fuse pulled and jumped the connections in the fuse block?? If so then the chime should sound!!

Sorry but it sounds like everything there acts as it should with what you've done.
You're going to have to keep looking. Try disconnecting the clock under the dash and then recheck the fuse (with no key in the ignition) - there should be no current flowing.

Good luck!!
