Howdy all,
3 years ago I picked up this Grand Waggy for a 4BT Cummins swap for $1,000, then sold drivetrain for $400. I repaired a couple rusted out frame mounts (basically only rust on the frame, surprising for a NY vehicle), and coated the frame with POR-15 and then chassis coat.
Three years later I finally drag it back into the garage with the addition of a couple bees nests and who knows what else (have yet to pull interior). The body has little rust that I can see (especially compared to other Waggys in the area).
My plan is to complete most of the engine swap tasks first (weld up motor mounts, exhaust, cooling, driveshafts), obviously bolting front clip (which I removed in about 12 pieces, idk why), up to check for clearances. Then pull it all out to be bolted back in last.
Then pull old interior out, buy carpet kit, headliner kit, trim pieces, modify seat mounts to accept the tan Durango seats I have to replace them, and install center console. The rest of the interior will be a matter of finding tan door panels, and dash parts off the internets and swap them out as they become available (does this sound feasible)?
Next complete whatever body work is needed, buy wood grain decal/trim kit (I saw this on the BJ's site), paint white.
I built a CJ7 from the frame up, but it was a bit simpler, interior was simply two seats and a center console.
Any ideas, tips you have would be much appreciated.
Thanks, John
