I admit that I am already drooling over the Chief.
I'm not too far away so if you find anything out and don't want it, please keep me in mind. I need something to replace the Gag O Neer and another Cherk would be just dandy!
By the way, my family has land near Pyramid lake and the wheeling is great up there. When I get the Blair done I plan on a run up there after the thaw. Might try to put together an FSJ meet during that time.

In line for info (plate # or anything) on the Chief,
I would hate to see it end up like another one a ~month ago, it ended up in the Pick and Pull Junk yard in Vegas with no way for the Junk-yard owner to pull it out. (In NV if it gets a Junk title it is had, no saving it) So he could not sell it no matter the $'s.
If this one gets towed it most likely befall the same fate :(
Thanks Mike D.

Man if Ristow came out this far west I could stay busy pulling parts, shoot take the whole Jeep. I bought a car from pnp here with a salvage title. It was a "builder" sold it back to them before i registered it even. Maybe they have a scrap title too:huh:
I hope the Cherokee stays safe too! It looks every bit as good up close and is rarely driven.

From what I could tell, if a Junk-yard tows a car and decides to title it on a lien claim, they can do that for a few $'s for a normal or apply for junk/scrap title for 0 $'s, it they pick the latter it is a done deal, the owner can not sell it as a unit to anyone but for scrap.

That makes sense, they decide. Then it is a builder or out in the yard for parts.

They can not sell the frame or the body tub, (those must be crushed ) only parts with a scrap title, so it pretty much ends up being vulture bait. (No chance as a builder)

I talked to the owners of the motel where this truck is at, and the truck owner does not respond to their calls. They are planning to have it towed, so I'm going to try and see if I can get an abandoned title.

I talked to the owners of the motel where this truck is at, and the truck owner does not respond to their calls. They are planning to have it towed, so I'm going to try and see if I can get an abandoned title. Here's the usual process if you aren't familiar.
Private property tows require the written consent of the property owner or authorized agent and must have a contract with the tow company in place before the tow can happen.
The rig goes to the tow yard and must sit for 90 days.
Then it can be sold by the tow company to recoup their costs.
The average storage is 45.00 per day and a short range tow runs about 150-190.
What I would do is look around the motel for the towing sign and get the name of the tow company. Then I would pay a visit to the tow yard and 'make a deal' with whomever calls the shots about the tow auctions.
It's a 50/50 shot whether or not the person will play ball or not. If not, you need to be present the DAY the rig hits 90 days and be ready to bid.
Keep in mind that most towing outfits have dealers who are there every auction and there is a risk that one of them might be an FSJ fan or know the value of a clean Cherokee.
I share this with you because there is a fine line between trying to snag an abandoned rig and grand theft auto.
Good Luck Brother....I wish I was closer or I'd make that tan beauty my own :)

The tan Cherokee is very nice!

it's a Cherokee "S".
Sorry, but that's a pet peeve of mine. :p

You are right!
Out of sheer orneryness I could submit that this one had a special order CHIEF decal delete code.....
Just kidding.
I saw the 'S' emblems and associated it with my Chief. Good catch!

Yeah, it is funny that Jeep listed in some places all "17's" as chiefs for certain years, even though not all had the Chief package. (Jeep did not have their stuff together in some ways) I would call it a Cherokee with the "S" package, but that is just me.

Vin decoder says otherwise...
It may, but it too is using "Chief" to denote any wide-track Cherokee, which I disagree with. The "Chief" package was an appearance package, that included, among other things, decals proclaiming "Cherokee Chief" in big letters on the sides and the tailgate. This one has the "S" package stripes.
Also, if you're using the decoder on our forum, it lists model 17 twice, one of which calls out a "Cherokee "S"-Custom-109" Wheelbase" - which is what this tan one is.
You could also get a base model wide-track Cherokee, which is neither an "S" or a "Chief", and it would be a model 17 as well.
I know I'm beating the picked-over skeleton of this dead horse, but I'm just in one of those moods today...:D
Oh, and sorry for the Hi-jack! Keep us posted on the status of the Jeep - I hope you or someone can work out a way to get it! It deserves better than to just sit and rot.

I have seen this truck for a couple of years now and up until recently, when I got the Mutt, I became interested in it.
