You know.... you need the output shaft from the TH400 that will mate with the NP205.... The QT/TH400 combo is a unique with its 10 spline shaft. Tranny needs to come apart and swap the output shaft.
If you find a 205.... GOOD LUCK!!!! Then you will need a factory adapter plate... I haven't had the luck lookin' so decided to go Dana 20 instead.

The 205 would be a great addition. You have to look for a 3/4 or one ton C*&%y w/ th400 and 205. the 4spd 205's have a different input hole which has to be machined out, etc. If you can't find the right parts used then probable better off talking to Advance Adapters. J20

i already have the 205 case and the turbo 350 it is attached to. i was planning to use and advanced adapter to mate the 350 to my amc engine was mainly wondering if there is an easier way. i may just use a chevy engine too i dont know yet. any advice is appriciated.

You already have the TH400just get hold of the stuff to drop the 205 on to it. the TH350 is a good tranny, but not as strong as you would want for a 5000+ pound truck. TH400 is the heavy duty GM tranny, the TH350 is the Medium duty tranny. If you are going to stick with the TH350 Build it. Replacing the output shaft on the TH400 is not hard, just take it step at a time. I would stick with the 400 myself. with the 350 you have to mess with downshift cable and setup, use the adaptor, move tranny lines, shifter setup...ETC
with the 400 it already bolts up, shifter works in stock setup, and the Electronic kickdown will still hookup stock. you just have to change out the tranny cross member and the drive shafts.

the 205 that mounts to a th350 is different that a 205 that mounts to a th400. the th350/205 is a rarer combo that you should have absolutely no prollem selling or trading for a th400/205.
if you want alot of reduction and have some $$$ to spend on it,you can get a th400/203,swap the tailshaft and adapter, then buy of road designs "doubler" that will let you attach the 205 of your choice to the range box of the 203.its a heavy pacakge, but you now have effectively 3 low ranges-up to 4 to 1 with both boxes in low.now THAT would be cool-doubler in a FSJ!
