Hey guys/gals,

Last week took the advise of several replies to my first post on this topic and replaced the ignition switch. Well, it starts stronger/quicker now, but the starter is still dragging (still trying to start although the engine is running).

It does it less frequently if the tilt steering is all the way down. Maybe just a coincidence. Plus, the starter quits dragging if the gearshift is moved. I can start it in P or N and if the starter is dragging, move the gearshift lever to N or P and it stops. The trans never actually goes into gear, just the lever going past the indicator letters. It also stops if the lever is put on R or D and the trans engages.

What could be causing this? I want to get it fixed before it damages something else or I get stuck in the NC hills while camping this weekend.

Thanks,

try and jump it from the battery. If it doesnt work properly then replace the starter. if it does work properly your problems are else where.
