If I put in a 3" body lift,and cut the fenders,could I fit 37's on my 82 J20?

I made cardboard cutouts at approx. 37" by drawing a circle with a pen tied to a piece of string 17.5" long. Jack up the rig by the axle (not the body), put the cutout center in the center of your hub, and start figuring. I ended up with 5" lift and soa, and cut the front fenders about 1" up.

I don't think 37's are THAT hard to fit under. I have a 4" spring lift and my 35s fit fine, so with some trimming, which I'd hate to see, I'm sure it's doable...but I wouldn't...and I also wouldn't recommend a 3" body lift unless you reinforce every single mount.

I just don't want to have to buy a set of rims.My truck came with 2 full sets of 16.5x8 rims.I can get 37's to fit them, but not 33's or 35's.I've got 33's on it now,but they are dry rotted pretty bad.8 lug 15" wheels aren't a dime a dozen,so If I can make my wheels work,I have to.:(I'm on a VERY limited budget so I don't have many options.

You could get some 16" wheels in 8 lugs, and with 33's, the price might be pretty close to 37's.

Hey i had a 72 j4000 truck with 38 on it and no lift the guy i bought the truck from had cut the fender flares all the way off and i never had any problems with them rubbing.

I am going to jump on this thread to ask my own question. Sorry, but my 77 j20 could also use some larger tires. It is basically a ranch truck, no serious wheeling. Nothing more than a little bit in the pasture. So how big of tires do you think i could fit under there?

you have to lift your truck 1 inch for every 2 inches of tire size in crease, is the rule of thumb. . .

example:
30's to 36's = 3inch lift.

also with 8 lug hub's n wheels i'd suggest some nice 19.5's
the swap over is a bit spendy but the long term saving's more then going to pay for it :D also if you wanna save some cash i like do snoop through E-bay Craig's list n local yards i can convert a truck for a lot less then the prices listed on the site, but the info on the site is very good !

19.5 Conversion:

EDIT:
I have a few truck's rolling on 19.5's i can vouch for the long tread wear and Outstanding handling under load's and the fact that flats n blow outs never happen, I have many 19.5's rolling on the road and for several years. . .

Here are OZ2 37's on a JTruck.
SOA (about 6 3/4") and a 3" body lift.
So call it 10" of lift.
I would have (trashed this project) needed to cut marginally to wheel and cut severly to wheel what I wheel these days.
