just had transmission rebuilt but still
bangs a little when put in reverse is this from transfer case? any suggestions?

It sounds like you have some slop in the drivetrain. Have you checked the motor mounts, transmission mounts, u-joints, or pinions?

You have the QT? If so this is a comon problem with the QT. It is from where the output shaft of the tranny goes into the t-case. It gets worn out and causes the "clunk". The only real fix is changing out the gear inside the t-case.

I just put in a D18, a switch from the QT and the clunk is gone! I love it. :D

I have this same prob in my 727, but it usually happens when I have enough fluid in it.

It comes from the 10-spline output shaft that feeds the QT. Time passes and the splines wear, and the spline meshing is coarse so you get slop. Replacing u-joints always helps (did it on my old Cherokee, about to tackle it on my Waggie) but there will always be some slop until you replace either the gear PC mentioned, the output shaft or both.
