View Full Version : Who's running the H2 wheels--is the offset OK?

Im looking for 8 lug wheels (used) for my FSJ and was told by a distributir that the offset wouldnt work. He refered to it as a Zero offset on the H2 tires and all newer Uni-bearing trucks. The older trucks used a Mid-offset (Im thinking 3-4"). Anyone know what the real Scoop is?

offset is the relation to the mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. if you have a 7" wide wheel with zero offset it will have 3.5" backspacing.

42" bias iroks on h2's 14bolt with disks stock frame 63" chevy springs.
I've cleaned up brake lines and painted the entire thing since this pic was taken. also shortened the frame and cleaned it up a little since this was taken.
4 speed atlas arrives on the 4th of Jan :D
to answer your question, the offset is not good on H2's for FSJ's. the front seems to have better clearance than the rear. the rear tires sometimes scuffs the frame under FULL flex. I've got a set of 3/8" thick spacers that I will put on the rear next time I take the wheels off. I think a 1" thick spacer or even a 1.5" will solve the problem.

OK, that makes since. I always measured from the inside rim edge of the rim to the wheel mount (back spacing). Yeh, XtremWorks can you measure the distance from the rim inner edge to the wheel mounting surface? That'll let me know how deep the wheels will set in. There are several sets in Fl for $200.

I have my eye on a Chrome set--Sweet:thumbsup: Do you think a 33X11 would have too much sidewall buldge? I know the Big Dogs will reply that 33's are WAAAAY to small. I agree:D

I didnt get the chrome set but I did get 4 POLISHED WHEELS and BFG's TIRES (H2) for the J10+. The rear 8 lug has been rebuilt and is ready to go under the rig. I cant wait to be rid of the 2:72's!

THE H2 WILL FIT WIT A STOCKISH SIZE TIRE. MY 87 J-20 RUNS H2 WITH 275 75 17 NO PROBLEM. IF YOU WANT TO RUN 33 X 12'S THE REARS WILL BE 1/8" FROM THE SPRINGS. I JUST RAN INTO THIS WITH AN 85 J-20 I AM PUTTING TOGETHER WITH 37 X 12.5 X 17 ON H2 WHEELS. I AM RUNNING SPACERS DESIGNED FOR AN H2 WHICH NEED MINOR MODIFICATION TO WORK ON THE DANA 60. ALSO YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE STOCK 9/16 STUDS TO THE LATER METRIC STYLE. WHEN COMPLETED I SPACED THE WHEEL OUT 1 INCH AND IT'S PERFECT.

I was shopping around for a set of 9/16 X18 nuts for the wheels. I was told by a vendor that the 6 degree taper of the seat is standard between the metric & standard. Joe, you weren't able to find a nut that would work on the H2 wheels and changed to metric studs? What are the rest of ya using to mount your wheels?

What is the actual backspace in inches on these rims?

I put 10" rims on my J10. The stock backspacing I believe I read was 3- 5/8". The rims I have now are 3-3/4" and the just barely clear in the front.

I test fit the tires (315X70-17) and they clear the rear springs by 1/2 ":o and several others are running 9/16 lug nutz without an issue;) . I measured the rims and theyre 9" wide with 5" back spacing. So, theyre pretty deep. Thanks guys for your PMs:thumbsup:

I bought 1/2x20 1" lug nuts for my front Ford axle and I used factory gm 7/16x20 one ton lug nuts on my 14b. They're also 1". Bought them from a local circle track racing supplier.

I skimmed the thread, so I apologize if someone has already stated this, but 1 thing I ran into with my build is that the H2 centers are not wide enough for my rear dodge d60 hubs. Most have just ground out the inner edge just a few mm's (what I intend to do with a die grinder), others have actually taken some meat off the hubs. IIRC, chevy and ford d60 hubs fit just fine.

Don't grind the hubs, just take them to a local machinist and get him to "turn" the center's out a 1/4 of an inch. JM2C. :D

Just need to change out the rear pinion yoke, and she'll at least be driveable again for the first time in over 6 months.
