View Full Version : Urgent: anyone who knows the amc20 rear

i'm trying to install my locker and found things that don't match up. i'm wondering if i just had a worn out lsd instead of an open differential.
need help here. questions:
1. does an amc20 lsd have spider gears?
2. if so, are the following pics showing thrust washers or an lsd clutch pack?

3. the pinion shaft was held in with C clips instead of pins, as shown in the pic below.

i don't see how a c clip pinion shaft will work with this locker. and, there is no mention of c clip pinion shafts in the instructions.
do i have a worn out lsd?

The trac-loc in a M20 does have spiders. The clutches go between the side gears and the carrier.

Do you have a picture of the carrier? The carrier for the trac-loc looks different in many ways to the standard carrier.

But judging from those picts, you do have an LSD. So I do believe you are going to need to find an open carrier.

i had a feeling that you were going to be the one to amswer this. yes, the clutches were between the the side gears and the carrier.

Yup, thats a trac-loc. I know some of the other lunch box lockers make one kit for use with a trac-loc factory carrier, and one for use with an open carrier.

i appreciate that information. at least i know i'm not going crazy. a lsd...i wonder where i could find an open carrier for that? maybe someone here that has replaced their carrier with a detroit locker, etc?

do you have 2.73's or 3.31's?

a 3.31-4.56 carrier will be easy to find. a 2.73 one wont be as easy.

i have 3.31's. i'll see what i can find here. there has to be somebody who put a detroit locker, etc in and has the old open diff in their garage. i can't wait too long though. if you hear of something, let me know asap.

j10 mike did you order the locker new? if so i would sent it back and get the right locker for a tracloc diff! they might exchange the 2!!!! never know :D

i did buy it new. however, they don't make a locker for the tracloc diff.
