There was a post about whether someones engine was an Amc or Chrysler recently. Is one better than the other? And in what way? I have a 90 GW with the original just rebuilt and I beleive its a Chrysler. Thanks, Jack

I'd be surprised if it was a Chrysler. They were NOT put in our rigs, even after Chrysler bought AMC. So if you do have a Mopar 360 it would be swapped in and that would be alot of work for such a http://www.nagca.com/forum/images/smiles/1poop.gif . The motor not the GW ;)

I agree that a Mopar 360 and an AMC 360 of the same vintage, that the AMC would spank the Mopar.

But, now, with the Magnum 360 crate engines coming in 300 and 385 HP and multi-port Fuel Injection, doesn't it look like a better swap?

Just swap the AMC bolt patterned 727 case for a Mopar bolt patterned 727 and your in business.

I think that if a person found a Dodge RAM 1500 or 2500 with a 360 for a donor, that I think this would be a moderatly inexpensive swap.

One of the reasons people think that they are Chryslers is that when Chrysler bought the Jeep brand, they had been using Chrysler trannys. People seem to think that since Chrysler owned them at the time and the trannies were Chrysler that it MUST be a Chrysler engine. NO. They kept making the AMC engines (and still do in the case of the 4.0). It would have been too costly for them to have put thier 360 in there for the 6 or 7 years that they figured the line would run. Much simpler to maintain continuity and finish the run with the AMC 360.

Thanks. I mis-typed. I meant...Its an Amc. Not Chrysler. All stock. Any inherent weaknesses with these? Anything to keep an eye out for? Just a daily driver. Maybe 6-7 K per year. Tops. Thanks, Jack

Change the oil, keep it in tune and it should serve you well for a long time.

I think you have to watch out for running it too lean. The emissions years, especially. Also, if you have it running real rich, it will cut the oil with gas and cause problems. Keep the carb tuned properly!!
