I keep solving one problem, and coming up with a new one!

So, Now my throtle cable sticks.

The springs are all there. When I operate the throttle by hand, no problem. But, when I put my foot into the pedal hard enuf, the cable sticks. pedal moves freely. I can pull the cable back out by moving the throttle by hand.

So, do i replace the throttle cable? Do I have to take a lot of things apart? Where do I get one? Are they custom to indivdual vehicles or, is it a kit?

The cable is replaced as a unit, and they are available at NAPA online, Belkamp item#: BK 6101381 Price: $ 17.49. Your local parts store can probably get it.

Before you replace it, try a little WD-40 (squirt it down the cable sheath) and make sure nothing else is hanging up. You can unclip the cable from the linkage and see if the cable is sticky - it's held on by a spring and just pops off.

Eventually the cable wears out and the little wires stick out and drag against the sheath. Pop the cable off the carb and the pedal, squeeze the plastic clamp (using pliers) on the bracket and on the inside of the firewall and it'll come out. Not a big deal - once you get the old one out, the new one snaps in.

Thanks all. I got it out. I had to take some bolts out to get my plyers around the clamp on the bracket. But I got it.

And I found a new one at Kragen. In fact, the employee, Russ, gave me a nice discount because he has an 85 Grand Wagoneer too!

By the way, Russ is selling his Grand Wag because he's moving to New York. It's a black V8 w/ tan interior. The exterior & interior are quite rough. And I don't know how it runs. He said he'd take $1000. He works at the Kragen on Sherman Way in Reseda, CA (Los Angeles)

Oh, and I gave him the web site address too!

Thanks to you all. With your advice and the confidence you inspire, I had 2 seccesses today!

Goodnight
