I need some advice! The slide button on the dash of my 89 GW has always been hard to move. The other day, when trying to move it toward "hot", it felt like something popped.
I have removed the end of the cable from the heater control flapper under the hood, the flapper moves freely, and the cable (unhooked from flapper)moves freely when I move the control on the dash! When I hook them back up, hard/impossible to move slider button. Is the next step pull the dash bezel so I can get the heater contol out ? Will I break the dash bezel? Where are the "clips" that my Haynes book talks about? anybody have an experience like this?
Also...FYI for anyone interested...I bit the bullet and got Edlebrock IAS performer shocks for the GW,they are great! Much smoother ride on the highway! feel firm on corners ,etc.

Here you go guys... The cable that controls the temp, is rusting internally or in a bind. Look at the top of the heater box under the hood, is the tip of the cable rusted at all? Mine did the same thing you all are describing and one day it just stopped popping and popped off the inside lever. My temp control is very manual..The directions are as follows..

Step 1= Pop the hood.
Step 2= Move lever on top of heater box to desired temperature. ( not sure which way right now.) One way is very cold and one is very hot.
Step 3= get some wire and loop it around the control are and attach the other end to something so it will not move
Step 4= shut the hood.

This is my temp control... Thought I would share. If it is nice in the after noon it is all windows. I am doing this twice a day sometimes. Heat in the morning and ac in the afternoon. 45deg mornings and 80 afternoons lately..LOL

it isn't hard to take off the bezel. I have had mine off more times than I care to remember. I usually start over at the radio side. You can feel where the clips are once you get one side loose. I either use a screwdriver or just my hands to pop it loose. The one over the interment cluster on mine stick hard. I feel like it will break the bezel, but it hasn't yet. good luck.
