Colder temps have hit and i'm having a problem knocking down the carb to a low idle and keeping it there.... it's a rebuild motorcraft on a 87 GW

During the summer (warm weather I had no problem) but during colder months i start it up and can't get the carb to get to low idle
even after a 20 min drive to work at 70mph it still is at higher idle.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?
My mechanic thought it might be sticky linkage last year when i went to him but all linkage is loose and not sticking..

Some reason the carb is not getting the message that the motor is warmed up during cold months

few things...

1: on a cold a morning, before you have started it, make sure you choke is just cracked open. If it isnt..make it so.

2: there should be 3 steps for the high idle cam if I remeber right. Try setting it to a different onne and see if it helps.

Make sure the hot air tube coming from the intake manifold to the choke is intact and connected. Then make sure the wire going to the choke is getting 12 volts when the engine is RUNNING.

If those things are OK then you might try adjusting the choke by loosening the choke cover and turning it (counter clockwise as I recall) until the choke plate just starts to open. Then tighten the cover back up. Do that when the engine is cold.

Ok i'll check those and see what happens.

this was a ongoing battle last year and when i took it to the mechanic it would drop to low idle or he would get it to drop and the next day back to the same thing...have to wait till this weekend thou. As i gotta do that work thing and won't get the chance
