I was trying to get my interior lights to work and I found out the fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and now all of the interior lights come on(under the dash, the front and rear on the headliner), but they don't turn off. I figured it would be controlled by closing the doors or turning on the wag or by the interior light dial. Nothing seems to work. I had to pull the fuse the turn off the lights. Since I don't have an owners manual, I don't know the how they are supposed to work. Any suggestions?
By the way, When I put in the fuse the in dash clock works! I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

The int. lamps are also controled by the headlight switch. The switch has a dash lamp dimmer and int lite switch built in, try turning the headlite knob clockwise.

On my '84 there is a slider switch on the rear cargo lamp which over-rides everything. My dogs like to turn that on and the first time they did I was at my wits end to figure out the problem. If that's not it then check the door jam switches or the dimmer switch itself.
(I LOVE MY GW too, but sometimes I can't help but look at the newer models) http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

My headlights are not controlled by a dial. They have a button switch to turn on prkg lamps and then the headlights. I turned them on and off and nothing.
I'm not sure about a slider switch, but my wag has a rear cargo switch that says "off" and "on". Regardless of switching it off or on the lights don't listen, they just stay on.

rattletrap,
next to your headlight switch is a dial to control the dash lights. rotate it all the way up to turn on int. light. You will hear a click. try rotating it down some.

That dial is what I figured would make the lights turn on and off. No dice. Wether it's clicked all the way up or down the lights just stay on. The dial sounds like it does click when it is all the way up. I guess my problem has to be in that dial. I'll just keep messing with it. Thanks

check and see if all the door switches are in order. 1 may have loosened up or the leads could be shorted together. before i replace some thing, i try to make sure its busted.i spend less money that way. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

The interior light circuit has constant power to it. The circuit is completed when you open a door(door jamb switch), flip the switch on the rear cargo lamp or front if it has a switch, or rotate the interior light reostat all the way, completing a path to ground. Any one one these components could be bad or you have a wire somewhere in the circuit grounding out. Hope this helps you out.
