The leather wrapping is starting to come off the steering wheel on my 89 GW. Instead of buy a cheesy steering wheel cover or a new steering wheel from the parts store I was wanting to put a three spoke wheel from a 70's cherokee steering wheel on. I really like the vintage and sporty look. they look much better than the one I have now, whick I think was exactly like one on my wife's 87 chevy celebrity she had 20 years ago.
Has anyone done it? What years can I swap with? And does anyone have one to sell?

I can't answer your question about the 3 spoke wheel... but...
I had the same problem on my 89 wag. In the process of investigating what it would take to replace it I cut off the old leather and pad. I was surprised to find a hard plastic steering wheel complete with grips underneath. In the matching original "sand" color no less. It looks just like the one on my 79 Cherokee.
My point is, if you want something that looks decent until you find a replacement, cut off the leather.

I don't know the exact year that they started using GM columns, but it was early-mid 70s. Any steering wheel off of a rear wheel drive GM car or truck up to when they started using air bags should fit. Even XJ's and 87 up Y'Js did. I've been thinking about changing mine out even though I like it.
