I JUST PUT A NEW BORG WARNER CLUTCH KIT INTO MY 1984 J-10 WITH 258-6 AND T-176 TRANS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FRONT OF THE INPUT SHAFT SLEEVE IS HITTING THE DIAPHRAGM FINGERS ON THE PRESSURE PLATE WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING. NOISE STOPS WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. ANYONE ELSE EVER HEAR OF THIS PROBLEM WITH A REPLACEMENT CLUTCH? THANKS CHET

I did a bunch of stupid stuff when I replaced the clutch on my 82 j10. It made funny noises like you, and smoked real bad. I'm amazed it moved at all. First, I installed the throwout bearing backwards. Then I took it apart and fixed that but I put the new pilot bushing on top of the old one and forgot to remove the old one. So I r&r again and removed the old bushing. The new one was wasted and the replacement I got was too fat for the hole in the so I ground that down by slipping it on a dowel and grinding it with a angle grinder... Poor man's lathe. Oh, also I've failed to torque to proper spec in the correct sequence, that makes for a funky ride too. Go ahead and laugh, trial and error is how I learned to wrench. LOL :D
