When I put it in 4wd the light on the dash comes on indicating 4wd and right next to it I can see a light that has "4 lock" on it. What is this light for? I'm pretty sure the 4 lock light doesn't come on it is just visible because the light next to it is on. Is this similar to the emergency drive light on the qtrack?

My '87 has it as well, but my '89 & 91 do not have it. It is a carry over from the Q-Track years.
AMC kept using parts into the next model years until they were depleted. Then they made new ones specific to that year on forward.

My '88 had a green 4WD light. I replaced the cluster because the odometer was broken. The replacement has an amber 4 LOCK light. I'm not sure what year the GW was that I pulled it out of. I didn't know there was any difference until the first time I used 4WD.

It may have been for the NP208-equipped J-trucks and fleet Grand Wagoneers, so that the light came on when 4wd (which would have been a "lock" position) was engaged.

my 87 has the green light which comes on when you put it into 4wd. Then to the right there is a amber(yellow) light which says 4 lock. Never comes on. Just like Chariot.
