I tested all the plugs and wires to see if a cylinder wasn't firing to no avail, my wag still sounded sick.

I gave up and took it to a... gulp... auto shop.
They found the problem right off, making me feel like a green city boy. Turned out to be the vacuum lines were shot, 2 having large holes in them.

Who would have thought a vacuum leak would have cause so much performance loss... an dieseling to boot?

Anyway, she once again runs like a dream.

Thanks for the reminder.... I KNOW I have some vac problems from my cam, but you just reminded me that I need to change ALL my lines... ;)

Ok, then maybe someome can help me with this. I noticed there was no vacuume line going to my power valve on the carb, so I hooked a line from a manifold vac. source and ran it straight to the carb per a recommendation on this board. I then could punch the gas as hard as I wanted to, up to 3500 rpms, and the beast would barely crawl. What gives?
