View Full Version : Passed emissions first time!! But . . .

Bought the GW at the end of September. Since then I installed an HEI dizzy, new air tubes and check valves, fabbed a downstream tube out of copper pipe, and put on a rebuilt carb. I roughly timed it and didn't fiddle too much with the carb. I figured they would surely have to adjust the carb and timing to pass emissions. If I got to pay for it, might as well let them dial it in. Amazingly enough, it actually passed on the first try with no adjustments at all (Passed with flying colors in fact). The only downside is now that it passed they won't touch the carb or timing. Guess I'll have to tinker with it this weekend because it's running somewhat rough. But the big thing is it passed smog and I can now register it. Next up: Virginia Safety inspection!

When i got home I was messing with the high beams because I could never get them to stay on. Well, I got them to come on . . .now I can't get it back to low beams. It's always something!

marcd ,

Sounds like your having the highs and lows of FSJ ownership. :D

Ain't that the truth. It does make you appreciate those few jobs that end up taking the amount of time you planned. Granted, they are few and far between, but when it happens, it's FSJ nirvana.

I can't complain. I really thought I was going to have issues with smog because the PO had most of the stuff disconnected/removed. I was afraid I was going to need a new pump and new cat.

Marc - Is it running rough at idle? Mine will only pass when the idle mixture is leaned out to the point of it idling a little rough. Once I pass, I back out the screws between 1/4 to 1/2 a turn and it idles smooth again. Hopefully it is this easy for you.

Yes, the idle is rough. I'm sure I need to advance the timing a bit too. I'll try to richen up the mixture too - Thanks for the advice, I hope it will be that easy too.
