Well, I took the 2 hour drive to go check out the '79 J10 that I had hoped would have been a suitable $250 donor for my own J-Truck, as far as the shortbox and fenders...and when I got there you could have inserted the sound of the trombone (waaaaah waaaaah waaaaaaaahhhh) when I walked around and got my first eyefull of the rig.

Since it didnt look like I'd be towing anything home that day, I at least figured I'd snap a few shots for you fellas here, so here goes:

When I first saw pics, I figured it would have its flaws and while the pics might not show it, there was no shortage of bondo and the bed and box were pretty much rotten, so I was pretty bummed on the ride home.

As fate has its own weird way of working though, about 20 minutes from my house, I just happened to glance over to my left in an area where I usually look right and saw a VERY familiar roofline from behind a small car dealership that usually caters to the "no-credit, no worries" crowd.

While I didnt bother with pics, it was sitting to one of the most rotten GWs I think Ive ever seen. Peeking in the window, there was a treasure trove of spare trim and related parts inside, but the enture front floor had been cut out and the body panels looked like they were pulled from the Andrea Gayle.

Happy hunting fellas....

Boobie grill on a J truck? Was this a factory option or has someone swapped it on?

Those Montreal winters can be tough on those old Jeeps - That is where I lost my first Cherokee Chief to the rust monster! Six years in B.C. and it still looked great! Two winters in Montreal and it was a mess!

Where the doors any good on the J-10? Where was it located?

Sidewinder, the passenger door was in OK shape, not "great" but servicable. I checked the bottoms and no rot. The drivers door though....whew, what a mess! No joke, there was a big hole in the bondo about the size of my palm, revealing that the putty was about 1/4" thick!

The rig is located in Bakersfield, VT about 30 minutes south of the border. Too bad, the owner was a nice enough guy, but I just couldnt bring myself to load it up (still yard drives) and haul it home and listen to the wife tell me Ive gotta cut this sorta krap out....know what I mean?

Yeah, winter in Montreal is pretty much a death sentence for any old iron, prolly why we all have to sneak over the border into NY and VT to go parts hunting!

The truck was pretty rough but I would like to have that sunvisor off the cherokee. Painted up I think it would look good on my J truck.

I will pay you if you can get that sun-visor for me as is off that Cherokee.

Thats the first thing I noticed too...I take it their hard to find? I'd love to have one on my rig but would probably never be able to find one. Do they make them anymore or is their another model visor that can easily be adapted?

Why is there a handle on the side of the truck? Otherwise, it looks like a decent Laredo - in about the same condition as Levi.. Only Levi, has floors.

Suz', this is the one that actually HAD floors, and Im considering making a cold inquiry about it sometime soon. Guys, maybe my photo taking skills are just too darn good, but seriously...take my word for it, in person that bolt-on eyebrow on the Chief looked really, really terrible. Its one of those things that sounds great in concept, but the execution was just horrible and clunky looking. Im actually a little surpised by the reaction to it, as when I pulled up and saw it, it sorta reminded me of when one of these kids in the city straps on a big ugly JC Whitney spoiler onto their already goofy looking Honda.

Seriously folks, it aint as cool as the pics may make it look.
