Shakin bet. 30-40mph

Hey guys -

I have a '76 Cherokee Cheif with the 401. She's shaking quite a bit between 30 and 40 MPH on acceleration. Wondering, if anyone has heard of this or experienced this?
My fiend thinks it could be the U joint?

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum....

Not knowing what running gear you have.... check your tierod ends for up and down play on the main tierod and also on your draglink. Make sure you are on jack stands under the axle. while you have it up... slide a pry bar under the front tire and lift up on the tire. Watch for play in the upper and lower balljoints... those are the main problems that can be encountered.

You also could have a loose wheel bearing... while up on the stands, see if you have noticeable play in the wheel bearing by gripping the tire and 6 and 12 o'clock and wiggle in and out... you will be able to feel play if you have any in the bearings...

Start there... that checks your whole front end parts... oh check the bolts holding the steering box to the frame as well. could be flexing if you have loose bolts...

IN 1976, I GOT A NEW CJ5,ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THIS SUCKER STARTED DOING THE SAME THING,THE NEXT THING THAT HAPPEND, THE DRIVESHAFT WENT FLYING. IT TOOK TMEM OVER A MONTH TO FIGURE IT OUT.THEY REPLACED EVERYTHING UNDER THERE,WELL ALMOST! EVEN THE SKID PLATE.AND 5 OR 6 DRIVESHAFT'S THEY HAD TEC GUYS TRYING TO FIGUER IT OUT. I WORKED UP THE STREET AT A DODGE DEALERSHIP,SO EVERY MORNING I WOULD DROP IT OFF AND PICK IT UP AFTER WORK EVERY DAY!ONE DAY I SAID TO THEM DID YOU EVER CHECK THE OUT PUT SHAFT???? GUESS WHAT!!
