Well, after all of the mods I took the chero out on a 200 mile test run. I figured up the mileage and got a whopping 12 mpg. That was running around 70 mph on the interstate. Since my odometer doesn't work I had to watch all the yardsticks to keep up with it all. The only downside was a lack of power in the top end. This was with the new Mallory unilite and a 1405 edelbrock. Although, the throttle cable broke after I got where I was going and I had to rig up a new one. Any ideas on how to improve my acceleration? I ran dual exhaust and have the open air cleaner assembly. Any thoughts as to what would cause me to lose my top end power with the 1405?

Timing...maybe your settings get you off the line quicker but lacks the power you "want" on top end. Paly with your timing.

Exhaust being too big could also be a problem...what size pipes you running? (I had this problem on a previous 4x4...never thought it possible til then)

Also rejet that carb! Although a 1405 comes jetted well from Edelbrock they almost always run smaller jets in the rear(secondaries). I can't remember right off the top of my head but I believe that one has .98 primaries and .95 secondaries. Also you can go with a lighter metering rod spring. If you are running a hot cam or are in a higher altitude the spring may need to be changed. The jetting kit doesn't cost much plus it comes with jets up to 1.00 and has springs and metering rods. Probably the worlds easiest carb to work on!

River Beast I have 2 1/4" pipes and have turbo mufflers on it. I have never checked the timing chain since I bought it so I think that i will check that. I have thought about putting bigger jets in but was going to wait to see what it would do first. Also, have any of you had to replace your resistor wire? If so how did you do it? It connects at the starter relay and the bulkhead connector.

2 1/4" duals is fine.... any bigger and you run into problems....
