I'm sure there are several out there who have updated their 70's style radio for a newer type CD model, besides cutting the opening to the correct size, are there any other mods that need to be done. I need to cut my dash now, before it's painted, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Well it totally depends what you want...

My dash was already 'hacked' to fit the newer style DIN radio. (literally, i got a couple stitches from it the first time I pulled it out)

You'll probably also want to attach the 'strapping' (that cheap steel/tin stuff they give you to support the back of the radio) so depending on how you do it, any possible heat distortion is hidden (spot welding would have been my choice, but instead a self driller got put through the dash, then ground off)

Otherwise, there's not much to it smile.gif

Have fun with your new stereo! BTW, 10/12" subs fit nicely in the compartments behind the wheel arches (do some reading on how to build sub boxes if you want to do that tho, you'll have to build them into the body). If you do it right, you can make a 10disc cd changer fit nicely in the drivers or passengers door (and make the cartridge accessible through the map pocket (just barely though) my amps are mounted under the front seats. I believe the door speaker holes were meant for 6.5" speakers (can't remember now) (I've also got 4x6" 3 ways in the rear doors just to keep the rugrat happy!)

Wags are great soundstages for stereos, LOTS of room to fit speakers!

Check out:
CRUTCHFIELD (http://www.crutchfield.com)

They include patch cords in the equipment they sell so you can still use the factory wiring.

GOOD LUCK!
