Hey guys,
Since it is the holiday season I wanted to put a list of "wants" on my xmas list but I have a couple of questions:
I want a portable drill and impact gun....like you would find at Sears, Home Depot...ect.
Anyways....which is better....a 3/8 inch or 1/2 drill?
And for the impact gun....there are some that have up to 900lbs of torque???
I see the guys on the auto shows (Truck U, Trucks, Extreme 4x4..ect.) using them but are they using something different than what I am looking at?
They all look the same but is theres a special kind...less torque, volts, ect.
Help me find the right tools.
Any and all advice is appreciated..especially since tomorrow they are having good sales.
Thank you...

i have an 18V milwaukee impact 1/2 drill como kit that i use at work all the time, and love it! the impact is slightly smaller then a fullsize one. i use it for almost everything, mabey not wheels, grab the air for that. the drill is awsome the 1/2 is a hudge plus. when you need to drill somthing big but cant find a 3/8 shank bit. they work great and i have no comlaints.

I'd check that and I think you will find it is in/lbs not ft/lbs. I saw one at Canadian tire that advertised 1400 ft/lbs, but it was a misprint. Couldn't even take lug nuts off with it.

I have an impact screwdriver 1/4 in hex. its 1400 inlbs about 116 ftlbs. I throw a 1/4 in to 3/8 square drive into it an it works for alot of stuff.

I have a dewalt 1/2" 18v impact and love it. Also have a 1/2" matching cordless drill that i love. Have used my impact at work and it will torque down to about 120 ft lbs. I need to torque to about 150 so i had to check them after i was done. Most things i use it for 120 is more then enough.

On cordless, I built a steel barn for a neighbor and he got me a Metabo drill and saw set. When I registered the drill, it came with an "XXL" warranty, which covers everything for 3 years. Including the batteries.
I dont have the #'s, but IIRC, the Bosch has the best bang for buck. They hit hard and last. The neighbor uses his for lugs.

When Ricbee showed up at my WOT, he asked for an extension cord for his 3/8" drive electric Milwaukee electric impact. (I think I got that right)
I will admit, I was impressed with the performance of this tool.
It worked just as well as my pneumatic tools.

If you wanna spend the dough, Snap-on makes a nice 1/2" cordless impact that takes old rusty lug nuts off with ease! My neighbor has one and it's a beast. Nowhere near 900ft/lbs though - I think air is the only way you're gonna get that.
I have an 18v lithium-ion Milwaukee cordless drill and I like it alot - one of the few things I haven't cheaped out on. :) Money well spent. It's rated 1/2" but it's the size of a 3/8". I think 1/2" is better - more versatile, unless it's too big to be versatile!!
