I sold off my '79 rust free cherokee a few years ago, and have regretted it ever since. I bought it from Pascal, and he even delivered it from Texas to Minnesota! Anyway, my wife and I have a winter home in southern New Mexico now, and we found this '85 Grand in Portales, NM last week. Other than a few paint chips, there is no rust on this vehicle. The college kid who sold it to us, bought it from his grand dad a few years ago. Both kept up with the upkeep very well, it's very clean waggy. And, everything works on it, the windows, the a/c, the cruise control, the ding ding thing when you leave the keys in it, the fog lamps, rear window, etc. My friend Jeepmandan sent me the craigslist link, thanks a bunch Dan!!! Oh yeah, the important part, 2800 bucks! And, only 70000 miles on it!

Looks good! I hope to get my 88 looking that good someday, it needs rockers, and I happen to have this wag here with no front clip, parts stacked inside and one rocker installed on it does that jog any memories?:D I got it from Dan for parking a coupple trucks outside my back door for a few years. When you get back up here in the spring we should have a little FSJ M&G, hopefully I'll have a newly rebuilt bed on my 87 J20, and maybe Dan will have that nice western J20 he just posted about.

'parts stacked inside and one rocker installed on it does that jog any memories"
Oh yeah, stored that one in my neighbors' garage for quite a while. Didn't take long though, to realize I had zero body work skills!

THanks all for the responses, the better half was a bit concerned buying nearly a 25 year old vehicle! But it's going to be her DD to drive down here instead of the F350 and Jeep wrangler with the Detroit in the rear end!

I'm not much for body work either, but can pull off floor pans and such, I got someone to do most of my J20 bed, and put those rocker patches on my 88 wag.

Since it's missing the cover on the drivers door strap, you should sell it to me ;).
I love Cloudcroft! We went there last year for Christmas and it was great.

I saw that, but small item, think we'll keep her!
Cloudcroft at xmas, was there snow on the ground? We've been at or around 60 degrees during the day for a month. Had one nice snowfall, but pretty dry lately.

Has the cargo cover, haven't rolled it out yet, you can see it in the above photo of the rear cargo area. I've been tweaking the beast a bit, replaced the worn out shocks, replaced the accelerator valve; no more gas leak/smell/possible fire! Changed the oil but now have high oil pressure. Removed the oil pressure regulator, some crud removed. Then replaced regulator, and then no oil pressure. Spent an hour looking for bullet shaped piston thingy. Found it between the tie rod and steering stabilzer. grrrrrr! :banghead:

Glad it worked out for you and Pam!
I can add craigslist searching skills to go along with my bowstaff skills, computer hacking skills, etc.
I'm sure you are loving wrenching on that rust free beast!

Yeah, the shock job didn't take a blowtorch, nor an impact wrench to remove the knuts!

Forgot to ask, did he take care of the windshield for you?
Did you get the stereo gear for that price too?
Grenadiers

Nope, windshield needs replacing, and there's a Pioneer stereo/cd player. And new speakers in all four doors, and the top center one. Sounds great.

Fantastic! I'm still grumbling over a BAD buy, kicking myself for $2,200 worth of beat up truck and $2,000 worth of repairs.....
If you run into another hungry college kid with a mint GW to sell you let ME know. Betcha $3 that if you find more like that while you're down there hiding from the winter you could make a mint selling them to us on this forum.
I love the round openings in the instrument cluster on those mid-generation GWs....

Yeah, prior to this one, we found an '88 GW in Las Crusces, NM. Had a lift on it, with little donut hole tires, looked pretty funny. That was rust free, and similar mileage, for 2500! We procrastinated too long for that one, but we like the vintage look of the '85 dash gauges as well.
