So I stop by a bodyshop recommended by a friend to see about rocker panel repair. He asks me if I'm some Jeep nut to which I laugh and say "Well, about these.", motioning to my Wag. He says: "Come here - I have something to show you..." We turn the corner at his shop and there's his black '73 J4000 pickup! Kindred spirits...
Cool old truck! I just hope any rot repair estimates won't threaten my marriage...

Man, my GW is parked south of Richmond for the winter for that very reason! I am paranoid about all the rust I see up here. Considering that AMC did little more than paint the tin on these things, I am not interested in watching my rig rust away.
I would be interested in a follow-up on who you end up going to. I am trying to learn who is who up here. Eventually I will have my ducks in a row to have the GW body/paint done. Just not sure if it will be up here or down south.

Once I explain to ANY body guy that I will not flip out if his work bubbles four months afterwards, they're usually more receptive to at least looking at the job before him. I don't k now of another vehicle (in PA, at least) that's more prone or apt to rust than Wagoneers. There are precious few around and even fewer in good shape. Mine's a daily driver and must remain so - no garage queens for me yet.
Turns out the body guy was more than receptive after I explained what I wanted to do with my Wag and understood my logic. He said he'd be in touch and I believe he will be. The J4000 surprised me and he said he was a closet Jeeper with no time on his hands.
