Hey guys,
Other than a loose bracket....what could cause the steering shaft to be loose or move around?
Any and all advise is appreciated.
Thank you,

Are you talking about the tilt mechanism in the steering column?
If so, it's a semi-easy-yet-time-consuming-and-complicated fix for that. Once you do it, you'll never have to do it again.
Search for steering column and fix.

It is actually the whole column moves and is loose.

Well that's a new one...
The column is bolted to the dash underneath, but I suspect your tilt mech. is loose.

Check the column shaft in the engine bay...have someone wiggle the loose column inside the truck while you look to see if the shaft moves in the bearing on the end of the column...could be the shaft bearing...easy replacement

Theres also a bearing in the column up top under the turn signal mech.
