I live in the Huntington Beach/Westminster area and need to have my carb rebuilt. I know it is supposed to be easy but I do not trust myself enough to complete this task. I either need to see about a good shop or see if there is anybody in the area that would not mind helping me out. I have had nothing but issues with this thing since I bought it in August. I had ignition issues, got those fixed and now she is not running so hot again. Also if anybody can lend a hand hooking all the emission equipment, I just picked up a air pump and most of the parts seem to be there. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan, I think it's called "The Carb Shop". In Costa Mesa off Baker near Bristol, I think. My kids always bring their trucks there to be tuned after they add a new carb. I haven't lived in the area for a few years, but they were open last time I was in town.

I tried that place and he wanted $300 to rebuild, I thought it was a little high since I can exchange at Kragen for $285

Yea, its the OC. I know they will do a better job and perhaps a better warrenty. It this for rebuilding and installing? Get them to install and set it up for the same price. Another place I like is Fitsgeralds (sp) in Costa Mesa. They are an old time auto shop. One of my boys currently has a 60's F100 4x4 in there for some front end fabrication and steering work. These boys have more money than Dad.

my brother paid $200 for a shop in san bernardino to rebuild his 4bbl motorcraft last year, even though one of his best friends owns two auto repair shops. it was loose, he threw it on his warmed-over '66 mustang and drove 5 hours to phoenix at 80 mph.
that being said, i wouldn't recommend it. what i would recommend is posting in the general forum about the specific problems you are having. and what kind of carb do you have? you wouldn't want to spend money to have your carb rebuilt and that not fix your issues.
carb rebuilding isn't difficult, mainly just cleaning and following directions. i rebuilt my first carb when i was 16. 4bbl on a '73 ambassador wagon with a 360 while my dad was hospitalized. carb kit is like $25. and then add the cleaning solution. folks here can help you through it. carbs are $50 at the salvage yards---$25 bucks on half-price day. (if you wanted a spare to work on).
fsj ownership is only recommended for those 1. who don't mind wrenching, or 2. have deep pockets.
