Found this in the paper and it got me thinking...

FORD DIESEL 7.3L MOTOR,
with 5 spd trans, out of 89 Ford F250 2WD, ran good when taken out, $600, or will separate.

Are those 7.3's any good?

For $600 bucks, I say its a hell of a deal. Especially with the trans. Lookin at 180Hp and 345 ft/lb of torque

What kind of tranny would that 5-speed be?

I belive it is the ZF Wide Ratio trans.I dont usually work on deisels so i'm not positive.I think they still use a variation of that trans in new ones.

awesome motors, good power, and that old it should be mechanical injection so it will get decent miles. one of my inlaws had that same years truck with the diesel and 5 speed and regularly got mileage in the high teens.

Most 80's diesles made that power or less. Slap on a turbo from a newer 7.3 And your looking at a LOT more power smile.gif

I was planning on putting a BBO in my jeep, but that caught my eye. What scares me is the fact that I don't really don't know much about diesels and the engine can not be seen running anymore.
The good thing is that I have a divorced TC, so the 2WD ZF OD tranny would be perfect for me.
What do you think??

the axles will handle it? can you run a compression test on it before you buy? sounds like a good idea to me.

how much does it weigh?

it weighs about 350-400 pounds more then a 360 or so. I would add an AAL up front, that should take care of any drooping suspension.
