OK...I'm getting tired of having to unlock my doors with a key on my 91 GW. My driver's side lock sucks in that when I turn the key to unlock it, it pops up the door lock button, but I have to push in the doorhandle button at the same time I fully turn the key or the door button falls back down. If I unlock the doors by the electric lock switch it goes up just fine...
Anyways, back to my question. I want cheap...keyless entry...I don't care if it has an alarm...Just two buttons (at least) one to unlock the doors and one to lock all doors. And it's fine if it has more buttons so that I can add functionality in the future, but I really just want to lock/unlock my doors..
Any ideas.

Actually, back in the day, the Gw came with keyless entry. I know my 90 has it, and so should your 91...it's just that I don't have a remote for mine :( I wonder if you could get them from the dealer? If you have ever wondered what that little black bubble on your overhead console is, that is for the keyless entry. smile.gif

I know about the factory one...I don't think you can buy just the remote, and you can't get it programmed from what I heard. I called a dealer about it, and I'd have to by the receiver and transmitter.. I think it was over $100 or so.
Besides, if it's anything like the factory keyless entry I had on my 90 Jeep Cherokee, you had to be standing next to the car to get it to work. Also, the Cherokee only had one button, so it was basically a toggle, and you never really knew if it was locked or unlocked unless you looked inside.

Well when I had an alarm installed for 40 more bucks they'll hook up to your locks and when you turn the alarm off they unlock the door.. I can't remember what I payed total but I think most alarms can do this. I have a Code Alarm if that helps...

JC Whitney has a kit for around $30 that actually works great. I hooked it up on my wife's Cherokee in about one hour and it works alot better than the stock remote unit. It comes with wiring instructions and two remotes for lock, unlock, and trunk.

I bought new door lock actuators on Ebay for $5 each. The same guy sells keyless entry systems. Look on Ebay, I'm sure they're there.

Yeah, I checked out JC Whitney's site, and I went with the Valiant system (the one with 2 remotes)
Hopefully it's easy to install, it will be my first.

someone on the board had mentioned a system made by bulldog security which can be bought at sams club. I remember him saying he had good luck. try a search in the general discussion area.

OK- but how about something that not only unlocks the doors, but pops them open as well. So you can remove the key cylinder and handle and everything from the door. That ought to stump most would-be theives. My best-friend's neighbor has a big 4x4 Chevy pick-up like this and nobodys touched his killer stereo system in all the years he's owned it.

That was me 13. I bought the bulldog system that also has remote start. I used it on my '93 explorer I used to have. Worked great. I am probably going to get just the keyless for my GW after I get all the power locks working better.

Factory keyless - the factory system was manufactured by a company called Prince Corporation, located in Holland, MI. They're now owned by Johnson Controls (JCI) so if you looked 'em up you should be able to get the main phone number in Holland. You'll want to talk with someone in electronic product support - if that's what it's still called. I worked there for several years, and know that much of the older stuff could still be had. In fact, I was able to get a new "brain" for my dad's 89 overhead console back in 96. Good luck!
