This is my second post on this- All stock 84 84wagon- new battery, cables & posts, starter selonoid, Ign module, dist cap- just cleaned my wires and connections-

Cranked right up ran great for 20 minutes and then started to die. Stalling in Atlanta traffic stinks.. starter turned over strong- sounded ok but no start. waited 20 minutes turned the key for 10 sec or so started up with a quick popping/cracking sound under the hood- ran REAL ruff..limped home- died pulling into driveway.. several backfires. What is the deal???

Did you have black smoke from the tailpipe? You could be running really rich.

no smoke at all- before or after.. running at low rpms at the time- slowing down for a stoplight-

Check your fuel filters. I had a similar problem and that turned out to be the culprit.

I have also heard of a catalytic converter failing and clogging up the exhaust. This would make the flow very restricted and possibly give you the same problems.

Well, my guess would center on the sounds after she starts back up. I assume that they were mild backfires of some sort. That would indicate that she was out of time for some reason. The CTO's modulate the vacuum advance on these units until they warm up. I would also consider the ignition module as those can make a jeep run very badly, mimicking many other causes. I believe that an ignition module can be tested off the Jeep in some parts stores. Oh yes, new ingition module does not ensure a GOOD ignition module!! Happened to me.
