Can I use the standard gears on this axle? I have seen reverse rotation and HD gears. I haven;t seen any HP gears on any of the Drivetrain websites I have been searching on.

It uses reverse cut gears. No such thing as reverse rotation.

Most any and all websites that sell gears should sell standard D-44 gears...or Low Pinion (LP) and then High Pinion (reverse cut, reverse rotation...there's a million right and wrong names for them).
No you cannot use standard D-44 gears in the HP axle. The carriers are the same but the gears are not.
And there is no such thing as HD D-44 gears. They are LP and HP that's it. THe HD D-44 most people refer to is the lug axle...the only real thing that makes it any stronger at all (and it's marginal at best) is the fact that it's lug vs 5 or 6 and there are a few with slightly thicker tubes. The R&P, axle shafts, u-joints etc are the same strength regardless of bolt pattern.
