View Full Version : Can I start the TFI without the 8mm wires?

I'm on a budjet and was wondering if I could do the upgrade a little at a time. Could I replace just the distributer stuff and coil and run it like that for a while? The spark wires on it now are stock borg-warner.
Also, the only upgrade I saw to the ignition module was aftermarket-msd and such. Am I right in assuming that the stock module is adequate?

Your current 7mm wires have the wrong ends for the new cap and are not up the power of the new coil, so the answer is no. If you buy a used ciol and cap adapter you will save enough to buy Autolite wires (about $28)and be able to get a better quality cap and rotor and still stay under $50.
