What type of air cleaner did you use? I've got the "drop" model, but it won't clear the electric choke stuff. I also have the non-drop style, but it just BARELY fits under the hood. If I were to put in hood insulation, it wouldn't fit...that's how tight it is (I did the "stick of butter" test) and it clears by about 1/4". Have you tried any other types of air cleaner housings?

Thanks!!!

I put the stock air cleaner back on. I have Dynamat hood insulation. It made an indentation of part of the air cleaner. Still runs fine, though. I am thinking of findinf a chrome cleaner to put on my birthday wish list.

Are you sure you didn't put it on backwa......nevermind!!!!

I use an edelbrock 14" air cleaner. 14"x2" air cleaner. Although i have used a 14x4 before, by flipping the top air cleaner housing over. It didnt help any, just costed a lot more. And at the rate that i go through air cleaners, i just use the 14x2. HUGE differance over the stock setup. Where our 5.9L engines have to suck air through a 1" straw.

Using a stocker here. I find that in the winter I can take advantage of the pre heater to keep my carb from frosting.

I just used the stock air cleaner, with a K&N filter inside. Soon I am going to add another snorkel and plumb both to some cool outside air.

as a side note i noticed a huge differance going from the stock air cleaner housing with snorkel to a 360 degree one with the edelbrock carb. Its pointless to have a 4v carb with such a restrictive housing. even two snorkels isnt really enough air to keep it fed.

I was using a three-incher...I guess I'll use the non-low-clearance housing and a 2"er. I figured the 2" wouldn't give it enough air, but I have a feeling dropping the housing would produce less, even with a bigger filter. Off to NAPA tomorrow it looks like!

Thanks for the help guys!

I used a low clearance 4" Edelbrock with a 1 " spacer between it and the carb. K&N filter. Works great and I have plenty of air going in.

oh ya, I have 1" spacer between the carb and the aircleaner also. The aircleaner didnt fit otherwise because of the choke.
