rear gate springs?

has anyone put in stronger springs so it makes it easier to lift up the rear gate. on my 77 it seems like it weighs about 40 lbs just to lift it and shut it. on my 84 parts waggy the rear gate lifts up much easier. has anyone looked into this or hada similar issue?

My '73 was like that, gate felt like it weighed 100lbs.

After replacing them with some used ones it would almost close by itself.

They are supported by torsion bars. You just need to find some used ones in better shape and you'll be set.
