Trying to find motor dimensions Iv seen caddy 500s and 454s in J-Series trucks but no one has played with a 7.3 will it fit? not concerned about weight front springs are shot so good excuse for custom springs and finally swapping in the 60.
Oh an no I cant swap in a cummins because I have 3 7.3s not 3 cummins :D
And yes I could get the dimensions myself but my motors are located 70 miles away I wont be out that way for a couple of weeks and I would like some input sooner.
Thanks
And my truck is an 87
Will the frame handle a 7.3 ? I think a guy at work told me the engine weighs like 800 lbs itself, without all the stuff bolted to it.
I believe someone also told me there is not enough room front to back for the 7.3 diesel as well.
The above is all hear say. I myself would love to drop a 7.3 into mine as well but am acually looking at possibly re-skinning an older F350 to look like a Jeep. Best I can do on my 95 F-350 is hang a few FSJ accesories on it. Maybe go with a Rhino or a modified Razor grille.
Like I mentioned above I would be afraid the frame would be too weak for the 7.3. But there is a M715 frame that I believe is alot stronger. That will have to wait till I get a M715 here to check. soon...very soon..;)
Sorry I'm no help but I will be watching you on this.

I was comparing a bare j-20 frame to a 1-ton dodge frame and I should be fine there I would probably be bracing the frame anyway due to paranoia.
I was thinking that the 7.3 was shorter than the 5.9 but it doesnt help that i cant find dimensions online.

I have the dimension in my driveway... and I think I wrote them into a file in my computer so I'll check when I get home. They are dimensions to include the turbo ducting/intercooler, if you run the stock turbo I don't think it will fit.

Indirect injection. Non-turbo, much less power, but would have plenty of power in a J20.

Is that a factory turbo? I've seen a couple advertised, just assumed it was an add on.

Factory seems like they only added them to the 7.3s for a year or so before they went powerstroke on ford trucks maybe longer on IH trucks
