Hello everybody. I figure I should introduce myself and stop lurking.
Here's the story. I had bought a 78 Cherokee for $200 awhile back and had the intentions of fixing it up enough to use it as a mild wheeler. The body was in decent shape and the straight 6 only had 55,000 miles on. Unfortunately I was moving and a friend needed some parts for his CJ, so I gave it to him.
Fast foward 4 years and I'm going to be picking up another FSJ only this time I will be getting a 77 J10 for $800. I want to use this one as a daily driver and park my Dually to only use it as a tow rig for my other toy.
The J10 is a 77 with only 87,000 miles. It is an auto with a 360 engine and quadratrac. The truck was owned by an older gentleman that loved his Jeep. The gentleman only used to truck to go to his summer cottage and for dump runs.
Here are my current rigs that I will be adding the J10 to. Unfortunenately pics of the J10 will have to wait till I get it home.
My Toy. (it started out as a 78 Bronco actually)

Beauty! Nice Save!
One of the things I like about the 77 Jtrucks, very little black trim paint on the razor grille like the Cherokees had.

I absolutely LOVE the 3 piece bumpers with the razor grille! Beautiful truck. "Travels with Charley" comes to mind when I see an old rig like that with a camper shell.

Nice looking J10 and congrats from another local (MA) guy. I need to get my stuff together and post up as you did. I picked up my J10 last weekend and have been too busy playing with it.
I had to run down to PA to find mine. Where did you find this one? It looks great.

The story behind this truck is that when my brother moved into his house in Middleboro, MA we noticed that one of his neighbors had this J10 sitting in the driveway and it looked like it was in really good shape. We both said that we need to keep an eye on it and figured if the owner ever became interested in selling it one of us would buy it. Fast foward 6 years and another of my brothers neighbors said that the owner of the J10 had passed away and the wife was looking to sell it since she had no use for it. My brother just adopted a newborn so time and money is not in abundance for him so he passed the info on to me. I knocked on the neighbors door and had a very nice conversation with her when she told me that the truck was garaged its whole life and it was only used for transporting their propane tanks to their summer cottage on Sandy Neck down the Cape and for occasional dump runs. I already knew I would buy it but went outside and check it over to make sure I wasn't making a bad choice just because I liked the truck. The truck started up with the first turn of the key. I told the owner I'll take it.

Welcome from Fort Wayne, Indiana
Very nice J10!
I received my '82 J10 very similar situation...older fellow loved his truck, before I got it, it sat a lot, the owner passed away, his wife sold it me.
The real happy part about your J10...you made it home with yours.
I picked mine up, drove it 50 miles, had a lady spin out in front of me and I wrecked my new prize.

On another note, while filling up the J10 at the gas station some random guy comes up to me and asks if I'm looking for any parts. I then say it's an old truck, I'm always going to be looking for parts.
(This is where the story gets good)
The guy then states that he has 7 of them (pointing at the J10) in his yard and the wife is complaining as well as the town. He has 2 that he drives but the other 5 have to go. He would rather give them to somebody who can use them than send them to the junkyard.

Finally got over to the guy's house that had all the J-trucks. He had one J20 that I wouldn't mind getting from him, mostly for the axles and plow setup. Most of the trucks had more rot than sheetmetal but there was a few things that I would like to get. He is going to give me a call when he is ready to get rid of them.
