My Jeep does not overheat, and the weep hole is not weeping, but there is a ticking from the front of the motor, either the water pump or??

I think that water pump is old, old, old.

It does not seem to be a pulley or the alternator. It can be heard while driving, and is louder if I stick my head underneath the front bumper. It is a ticking, I feel no vibration, and it is a *light* ticking, not a rod. Thank God.

I will try the old stick of wood to listen trick tomorrow, any other way to determine? I really do NOT want to put in a water pump in less I have too.

this is just a stab in the dark, but it could be the timing chain causing the ticking....My motor does some ticking and I know its the timing chain, but its a 258. Also you may have a stuck lifter causing the noise....I'd check those two ting first...good luck

remove the belts, start the engine, does the noise go away? if its there, its not the accesories. id make real sure it was something be fore i replaced anything. this is a lesson i learned the hard way. my bwm has a clatter in the front of the engine. i have replaced the alternator bearings, the fan clutch and the waterpump. still got the noise. either the p/s pump or the ac compressor clutch. they work fine and i wont mess with them 'til they get worse.

Hmmmm. It stopped. I mean, it was fairly loud, now stopped. Checking everything today. Thanks for the feedback. I like the remove the belts idea.
