Would this be considered a FSJ? It looks remarkably close to a modern day Grand Wagoneer (general Shape). Plus you can get a HEMI in it.

yeah it seems like it could be the modern equivalent - however, a bit delicate! I mean, it's not really full-size capable and doesn't have leaf springs for that classic ride! :)

I do like the Commander, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as our FSJs. Still a world away in how it was really built.

Take a look here - this thing worked great off road.
Amazing what a little lift and tire action will buy you. Remeber, this has the same 4 wheel drive set up as a Grand. The Quad-Drive systems work very well.
Ground clearance helping . . . Hmm, just like any other Jeep for that matter ! IFS limts articulation, but the traction system helps a LOT!

Ok can someone tell me why manufacturers insist on making on making IFS systems with really short arms? IFS would not have such a bad rep if the center part consisted of JUST the width of the housing... You would have the possibility for TONS of travel and it might even be cheaper to make it that way... Instead they make the arms like 6in long...
I am sure there is a reason for this... What am I missing?

Nope, not an FSJ and I hate the way Hemis feel on the low end in a truck or SUV.
Now maybe if they made a PROPER FSJ like SuzQ did...

I don't think it weighs enough or leaks enough oil to be a FSJ.
But maybe I am wrong and it does leak as much as ours do.

It may be blasphemy....but I like it ! I wish they would come out with a model that had the woodgrain and grill exactly like shown above.

i happen to kinda like the commander, and i would consider buying one IF it had a solid axle up front.

I think there was about a 3-4 page (I have my display set on 40 posts/page) about this same topic wwhen the Commander came out. My favorite comment was something to the effect of someone quoting someone else (who had some grammar problems, IIRC) end asking why they thought the Commander would eventually "grow" a frame and then it could be considered an FSJ.

We own one with a 3 inch lift, thing is amazing we have every option. However i like to feel like im driving a vehicle, when i take the commander out i feel like im in a leather chair just turning a wheel I cant feel the road at all.

Your not missing much.. we call IFS "Chicken Wings" at work....
And yes, articulation is very limited. It can still work pretty well, but nothing articulates like a solid axle! And IFS is not an easy system to modify !
Now, that said, the JK almost was pushed into IFS by a certain group of hwy huggers.. There was a TJ prototype to "prove" it would be better. Had long crossed arms.... worked better than most, but -
Let's just say, some of "us" made dam sure that didn't happen !!! That was the one year I pissed off my boss's boss. Uh oh. Oh well, I didn't get a raise - but, we got the right thing done.
Now, back to the FSJ channel . . .

Long crossed arms? Like old Fords?
At any rate the Wrangler is the reason I would still buy a Jeep dispite the whole bailout thing leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
You should convince the Chysler Financial guys to give me a loan on a nice Rubicon  :D

My neighbor across the street had one (commander) that he just hated it had a Hemi. He kept trying to trade it to me for my Cherokee.

One of the big issues with a Hemi = the electronic throttle - twichy response, Hard to modulate... and make a smooth transition.
Thats why we made my 6.1 a cable set up. :D Nothing like a manual cable, gee, just like a carb linkage. Hmmm... old school !

I having been thinking about how to make my 360 electronic!
Seems like it might be kind of hard for little benefit.
