Ok heres the deal, been thinking about my 360 swap while out on the road. Well I have decided to order a 401 engine kit. What I need to know is, where to get a balancer and a front cover? I can find 360s no problem to rip these off of, but there are no 401s around here. So I am kinda stuck, this is the last thing I have holding me back.

Thanks,

The cover is the same, but the balancer is not.Do you have a 401 block to rebuild or you just buying one outright? I'm curious how much a core charge would be. DENNIS

I just bought a cover and balancer from specialty parts for a 401 I'm building. The covers are the same but not the balancers. I did not have a core for the balancer and ended up paying a $45 core on top of the price of the balancer $125. Steve at specialty parts told me a balancer from a 304? would work (I think he said 304 but I can't remember for sure). The 304? balancer would than be rebalanced for the 401. Also, if you're rebuilding your engine it is a good idea to get a new cover because the oil pump is part of it. On a used cover you can't be sure what amount of pressure the engine will get until it is installed and running.

I'm buying a new (well "seasoned" new to me) block from PAW. I figured the balancer would be different from a 360 (which I have two of). I'll just buy one when the time comes, oh well. Oh yeah, on the core charge, from PAW there is none, the long block kit costs $2700, but pretty much anything you would want to do in the way of machining and such is done. Its all ready to bolt together and go.
