Went to the junkyard today. I found lots of cool stuff for my Jeep.
Got this, anybody know if it is factory?

Some other stuff to finish fixing my Jeep.

Here is what that stuff came off (1976 Narrowtrack Cherokee). I felt bad for stripping it, but it is not getting out of the junkyard. It has found new life in the renewal of my GW.

Haha.. I was trying to pull that grill guard myself last week but after pulling all the bolts I found it was welded to the frame. Did you manage to get that thing off?
It had a nice roll bar though which I did get. :D

You must of tenderized it for me, all it needed was a little manual persuasion and a BFH. It was a nice truck kinda sad it was in the yard.

Yes that is a factory guard.
You'll love the results, I did....

I am sure I will. I was going to go with the boobie grill but found a good razor and the grill guard at the junkyard. That guard sure is burly, I was impressed.

Jaber,
Nice looking GW. Did you have to drill holes or make brackets for the guard to mount on the bumper?

Well, that'd figure. I diced my knuckle up good removing the bolts and called it quits shortly after messing with the weld.
There's a few J-Trucks there now in that area, but that one is in decent enough shape that I was surprised someone junked it.

Trailscape,
I saw three in that area, two with razors and one with a boobie grill. The Cherokee I took the front clip from was clean.

The guards changed in '79. The tabs on the front were changed to match the different bumper style. I have 1 of both styles and the older style, IIRC, uses a u piece of metal that bolts to the guard. Theres a hole in the u mount that uses one of the chrome bumper bolts to hold it. The newer style has a tab welded to the side of the upright piece that gets the bumper bolt through it.
If you look closely at the above pics you can see the tab with the shinny bolt in it. Heres the other one.

I would think a piece of angle iron welded to the side would help you.

The guard I have was off of a three piece bumper, so i guess it is the older style. No problem though I think that brackets will not be hard to make.

Looks good Tom! Next time I am over that way I will have to poke around in that junkyard.

I wish I had one of those, or a similar guard for my '200.
And, seeing both that J-truck, and that straight-bodied Cherokee in there really pissed me. My truck looks more at home there than they do. :rolleyes2:
