View Full Version : Anyone have a fuel tank in the spare tire location?
How was the install, did you use, poly or steel, any regrets?
Is the sending unit opening in the top of the tank universal from car mfg. to mfg.?
I am filling up ever three days, 11-12mpg is not a problem but I'd like to go four days if possible so I'm looking at alternatives to the 22gl tank.
The space under the Wag is 32"x32"x10". That is frame to frame, crossmember to hitch and bottom of pan to bottom of the hitch. I plan to deduct 6" in length and width and go 10"-12" in depth.

If you check out River Beast site he put in a tank from a ford Bronco. He has pics and details on his site.

I believe from www.aerotanks.com (http://www.aerotanks.com) that have 2 different tanks we can get for our jeeps. One of them is a replacement for the original tank, and thats 40 gallons, and then there is the one that replaces the spare tire, and that is 29 gallons. I called for a price and you cvan get both of them including all hardware you will need to get them both working for like 910 bucks.

I have an aux. tank in the spare tire location. It was made by Travel Tanks which has now gone out of business.
If you saw my posts from last week you'll know that I'm having a difficult time passing smog here in California.
If you do the conversion, just make sure that it's vented properly and you have all the documentation, or you'll end up taking it out like I need to. :(

Todd,
Thanks for the link, I could not find it on your site.
Can you describe the install in detail for everyone's benefit?
Thanks,
