If the ones you got at Lowe's didn't really fit (like the ones I bought from there-they were too long for the factory bolts)

Try here: http://www.mcmaster.com/ and do a search for well nut (they are listed under "rubber insulated rivet nut"). I think the one we need is a .25/20x.5"x.620", but somebody correct me if I am wrong. If anybody buys a pack (min order is 1 pack=25 each=$14.51) I will buy a few from you.

I found some at autozone or Checker ( I don't recall which ) in the HELP! section. ( The little red packages ). There were 2 per pack and they were about 4$/pack. They fit right into the holes, but there was a ~1/8" lip that didn't quite fit into the rubber/plastic gasket under the mount. I had to ream out that gasket a little to get everything to cinch down good. Seems to work.

I used some from ACE Hardware to mount my license-plate. They cost $.92/each for the same-sized ones used on the roof-rack.

To second Bob's reply, my local Ace hardware also sells the Wellnut brand, which are exact OE replacements. Price is like he said, just under a buck a piece.
