Can anyone tell me what bit, rachet, tool or whatever is used to unscrew the cover to the tailgate switch that is located on the outside? It looks like a star and the center of the tool would need to be hollow.

Thanks Guys!

hmmm...my tailgate doesn't have that but it sounds like a Torx bit. The conventional Torx bits are solid but there's a security or tamper proof or some such named Torx bit that has hole in the bit to fit over the little tit in the middle of the Torx screw. Any parts store sells both style torx bits.

There's a commercial fastener place right off the road between Atlantic Ave and Capital near where the old farmers market was is where I got mine. I've also had luck taking a punch and breaking that stud and using a regular star bit.

Any auto parts store will have the bits/socket
for this from memory it is a #25 or #27.
(But my memory is fading)

I got a set at one of the local parts stores around. (I might even be able to find mine)

Give me a shout if you need help.

A small, narrow bit screwdriver, with a notch filed in the middle of the bit, was enough to get mine out when I needed to.

I think someone referred to them as Safety Torx. I took a dremel to the little pin and used a regular torx wrench. Sometimes, I just can't get my lazy butt to the parts store . . .

I bought a cheap set, like a socket set at Checker that has the hole in it already. They're very cheap and readily available. I personally recommend just getting the right tool. They'll be needed for other things on your Wag anyway.

The center post will snap right off with a small punch, then just use a regular torx driver.

The proper tool is a called an anti theft driver. gm uses them in a lot of thier vehicels and chrysler too. go to any parts store and ask for them you will get them. I had to find a set to work on the ignition to my brothers 97 cherokee and boy did it come in handy for the wagoneer tailgate.
